Is treatment with the Starlux safe? The Starlux IPL is FDA-approved and is very safe when used by trained and experienced clinicians. The right settings are custom-tailored to your skin color and type and according to desired effects. To maximize safety, avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks prior to your treatment and wear SPF 30 sunblock when going out. If you are currently tan, then treatment should be avoided until you are back to your baseline skin color.
What kind of results can I expect from IPL treatment?
Each IPL treatment will result in some improvement in redness, decrease in sunspots, and gradual improvement in skin texture irregularity. Improvements in skin tone may also occur gradually over time.
How frequently do I need treatments?
A single treatment may be satisfactory for some, however treatments may be repeated once every 3 weeks or more for additional benefits.
Who performs the treatments?
Your treatments will be performed by Jeannine, our physician assistant. Jeannine performs all the laser treatments at TMD.
Does the treatment hurt?
The Starlux emits a flash of light that feels hot and may cause you to startle the first time you feel it. It is not painful, however, and anesthetic is not necessary.
What happens after each treatment?
You may experience some redness and occasionally bruising after your treatment which are all temporary. Sunspots frequently dry up and begin to flake off. As with any laser treatment, it is important to protect the skin from the sun after treatment so that darkening of the treated skin does not occur. Wear SPF 30 sunblock (available at TMD Medi-Spa) for at least 1 week after your photofacial treatment.
