Tattoo Removal in Los Angeles

Safety is very important when it comes to laser tattoo removal.  This concerns both the patient and the laser operator.  Eye protection is critical before treatment may proceed.  Both parties must wear protective laser glasses that are matched to filter out the light of the laser.  If one were not wearing eye protection, the laser could actually burn a hole in the layer of the retina used for eyesight.  This could happen even if the laser is not pointed in the eye.  The beam could bounce of a reflective piece of jewelry.  Doing tattoo removal on the eyebrows makes it especially difficult, since one is simultaneously trying to avoid the eye.  One can protect the eye by pulling the eyebrow up and using metal eye gogles that completely cover the globe of the eye.

Skin safety is another important area.  The darker a tattoo is and the more light it absorbs consequently, the easier it is to cause a burn with a laser.  Un-tattooed skin absorbs much less of the laser light and is much less likely to get burned at the same energy as tattooed skin.  Therefore, the laser energy needs to be adjusted with each treatment based on the previous response and the amount of ink remaining in the skin.  Darker skin types are also more susceptible to laser heat.
