Lately, our company has been approached by various Chinese manufacturers that make lasers and other skin care / beauty devices. The prices from these manufacturers are much lower than those offered by American and European companies. So shouldn’t we switch to Chinese products for our future laser needs? As the president of Tattoo MD, I think that we should not go down this path for several reasons.

One is that in order to use a medical device in the US, it must be approved by the FDA. None of these devices, to my knowledge, have been FDA-approved. Second, there is no Chinese company with a major sales and service presence in the US. If there is a problem with a tattoo removal laser, who will we call? In the case of a domestic laser, dedicated service teams are available very quickly. Another reason is that Chinese lasers are of an unknown quality. What good is a $5000 laser if it causes scarring or doesn’t work? There is just too little information out there and no reputation to reassure the cautious laser buyer. Finally, I think that in these tough economic times it is very important to buy American whenever possible. We will all become poor if we continue to import everything we need. So at Tattoo MD Laser Clinic & Medi-Spa, we will always seek to buy American lasers.
